Major Committees
International Hydrographic Organization (IHO)
MesoAmerican Caribbean Sea Hydrographic Commission (MACHC)
International
Chart Committee:
The INT Chart Committee strives to implement the INT Chart Scheme
for the Region, to identify producer States, and to monitor its suitability
throughout the Region.
Electronic Chart Committee:
The Electronic Chart Committee (ECC) endeavors to facilitate the production
and use of official electronic chart data (both ENC and RNC) for safe,
efficient, and environmentally-sensitive maritime navigation. The ECC
recognizes that this will involve improving the hydrographic capacities
of coastal states. To address these two main issues, the ECC has established
two Working Groups as follows:
- Working Group 1 - MesoAmerican Capacity
Building Pilot Project to:
- Improve capacity building of coastal state hydrographic offices in a defined area
- Initial focus: the IADB-administered, GEF-funded Gulf of Honduras Project
- Working Group 2 – ENC Production and
Distribution to:
- Improve ENC coverage of the entire region in the short to medium term, and promote production of ENC data by national hydrographic offices
- Initial focus: overcoming the lack of ENC coverage for major ports and shipping routes.
U.S.-Mexico Charting Advisory
Committee:
The U.S.-Mexico Cooperative Charting Advisory Committee functions under
the auspices of the International Hydrographic Organization’s
(IHO) MesoAmerican and Caribbean Sea Hydrographic Commission. A
primary objective of this Committee is the coordination of respective
requirements to achieve maximum compatibility of surveying and charting
operations in compliance with IHO standards.
Capacity Building Committee:
The Capacity Building Committee was established as a Committee at the
last Commission meeting in November 2005, in Veracruz, Mexico, and thus
is a very new committee. More information will be posted on this web
site as the staff of this committee is identified and the terms of reference
are developed.
