Hydrographic Data Processing and
Marine Cartography (2 weeks)
Description of Training:
This
two-week course is a scaled-down version of the five-week course, and is
designed specifically for international students. The training aims to provide
a sound introduction to techniques of processing hydrographic data into
published form, particularly nautical charts. It lays the foundation for data
assessment and chart compilation skills and is equally relevant to a
conventional or digital production environment.
Topics include:
▪ The Navigational Chart
▪ Chart Content, Design, and Cartographic Principles
▪ Hydrographic Features and Data Selection
▪ Source Data and Chart Maintenance
Prerequisites:
▪ Good general English, with reasonable technical English.
▪ Candidates must be employed by the hydrographic office or similar organization within their country.
▪ A background in cartography or hydrographic surveying or other relevant experience is desireable.
